Llama 3.1 is here. With 405 billion parameters, it was trained using over 16,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs, costing Meta hundreds of millions of dollars.

1. High Performance: Despite having fewer parameters than Llama 3.1, Mistral Large 2 offers comparable performance, excelling in multilingual capabilities, reasoning, code generation, and mathematics.

Takeaway: Mistral Large 2, which is only a third the size of Llama 3.1 405b but boasts performance on par with GPT-4, is truly remarkable. With two open models matching GPT-4's capabilities released within two days, the competition has intensified for closed-AI giants such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google.
